Illumination Facials
Common Contraindications for Facials:
Active Skin Infections -Bacterial, fungal, or viral infections (e.g., herpes simplex, impetigo, ringworm) in the facial area can worsen or spread with facial treatments. Severe Acne or Cystic Acne: Clients with severe or inflamed acne may experience irritation or damage to the skin during facials, especially if extractions or exfoliating treatments are involved.
Open Wounds, Cuts, or Fresh Scars
-Treating skin with open wounds or unhealed scars can introduce bacteria and delay healing. Avoid facials until the skin has healed. Sunburn or Sun-Damaged Skin: Facials on sunburned skin can cause more irritation and discomfort. Clients should wait until their skin has healed from sun exposure before getting a facial.
Recent Chemical Peels or Laser Treatments -Clients who have undergone chemical peels (e.g., glycolic acid, TCA peels) or laser treatments should avoid facials for at least 1-2 weeks, or as directed by their dermatologist, to avoid over-exfoliation or irritation. Rosacea: Clients with rosacea may experience increased redness or irritation from certain facial treatments, particularly those involving heat, strong exfoliants, or harsh ingredients.
Eczema or Psoriasis -These conditions make the skin more sensitive and prone to irritation. Avoid aggressive exfoliation, steam, or products that can trigger flare-ups. Use of Retinoids or Accutane (Isotretinoin): Clients using retinoids (e.g., Retin-A) or Accutane should avoid exfoliating treatments, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion during facials, as these can cause excessive skin peeling and sensitivity.
Recent Botox, Fillers, or Cosmetic Procedures -Clients should wait at least 48-72 hours after receiving Botox or dermal fillers before having a facial to allow the skin to settle and avoid altering the results.
Severe Allergies or Sensitivities-Clients with known allergies to skincare ingredients should be carefully assessed, and a patch test may be necessary to avoid reactions. Clients prone to allergic reactions or with sensitive skin should use hypoallergenic or gentle products.
